Dear Parents/Guardians,

Hasn’t the weather been wonderful over the past week? I think it has been great! The kids have been able to get outside in the sun and have fun!

Inside the classroom, the kids have been learning more and more words through spelling and phonics. They will be learning how to spell words with long i (spelled i_e), then the next week they will be learning how to spell words with soft c and soft g.

In grammar, the kids have been learning about present-tense verbs. We do Daily Language Practice, in addition to the grammar that is included in the curriculum series, so that exposes them to new grammar skills much more frequently.

In writing, opinion has been the focus for a few weeks now. The kids have learned how to state their opinion and how to write their opinion. They still continue to write journals and stories. They like writing stories!

We are wrapping up addition and subtraction in math, ending the unit with fact families. This week the kids will be learning about bar graphs. The kids also do Minute Math, so that allows them to attain math skills much more quickly. This past week, they enjoyed counting money!

Please remember that standing homework for each evening is to study spelling words and read for 15 minutes. About once a week, I will send home a selection for your child to read to or with an adult. I have been doing this for the past couple of units. I do not usually send home math homework, however, if you would like math homework, let me know and I can get it for you.
