It is hard to believe that the end of the year is just around the corner. Even
though the semester is only a few weeks away we still have plenty of exciting things to
cover. The juniors and seniors are working diligently on their capstone projects. They
were given the opportunity to select a topic and medium for a research project. I am
looking forward to their individual projects and seeing where their creativity, interests,
and insights take them. The eighth-grade American history class just completed a unit
on the Early Republic and will begin their study on western expansion and Manifest
Destiny. We will complete our semester with a unit on the Civil War and the beginnings
of the Reconstruction Era. The ninth-grade history class is finishing a unit on the
Roaring Twenties, the Great Depression and WWII. The next few weeks' instruction will
be presented chronologically by decades from 1950s to 2000s rather than by eras as
other units were taught.
The sixth grade Geography class will continue their trek around the globe. Currently we
are focusing on South America, next stop Australia. The seventh grade will continue
exploring the southern hemisphere continents before moving north, ending the year in
North America. The last few classes in the semester will be dedicated to our local areas.
The seventh grade has also been extremely helpful this month with the Find the Good
Around World bulletin board display in the cafeteria. A special thank you to them for
their hard work.
I am happy to announce the sophomore history class has survived the first two required
exams. There are two more exams scheduled in the next few weeks and our focus will
be on review and test preparation. I am confident they will do great. They also did an
amazing job with the judicial branch project. It was both fun and educational. The World
history class began a unit on the Renaissance Period and the beginning of the Modern
Era. It covers some exciting topics in world history including the Industrial Revolution
and the Enlightenment. We will end our semester with the Modern Era on into the
Contemporary Era (1991-2020). It has been a joy teaching all of them this year.
