Their next unit is a reading unit with some creative writing, such as Riki Tiki Tavi, the Legend of Sleepy Hollow and writing Halloween stories in October.
8th Graders are reading Flowers for Algernon by Daniel Keyes. So far they are doing an excellent job of comprehending and applying prior knowledge and experiences to the text. They will next be practicing how to cite text evidence and arguing points in literature with short stories, and may have some creative writing thrown in later in October
English I and II are beginning their short story units. They will be actively reading, with comprehension questions, short vocab activities and class discussions, they will also be writing reflective and descriptive essays to apply what they learn in literature to their everyday lives.

This unit coming up is all about the ability to apply a theory/different view to a text and analyze the different effects of that theory.Â
The English Literature class will be updating their resumes and start with some Mock Interviews. They will then begin their first speech which is a persuasive /argumentative speech.. Seniors will also be working on Narrative essays that can be applied towards scholarships or interviews. They will later begin practicing MLA writing while citing sources correctly within research papers in the MLA style and will also start comparing different literature works.
